Therapy in Oakville, Ontario

GestaltReview offers Oakville residents a vetted roster of registered psychotherapists working across the full range of presentations — anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, life transitions, identity, work and burnout. In-person therapy in Oakville is available with Olga Klimenkova, a Gestalt-trained Registered Psychotherapist (GIT Diploma). For clients open to a short drive, Alisa Ziad Al Haj sees Oakville clients in-person at her Burlington clinic, 15 minutes from most of Oakville.

Online therapy is available across Ontario with our full six-practitioner roster — including senior practitioners with 18+ years of clinical experience and therapists offering sessions in English, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Approaches in our practice include Gestalt, CBT, DBT, ACT, attachment-based, trauma-informed, and integrative work.

Sessions start at $140, are HST exempt, and all practitioners hold current registration with CRPO or OCSWSSW. Every therapist offers a free 15-minute discovery call so you can find the right fit before committing.

How to find the right Oakville therapist

The most important factor in therapy outcomes is the quality of fit between client and therapist — more so than any specific modality. The free 15-minute discovery call we offer with every practitioner exists for exactly this reason: a brief conversation will tell you more about how someone works and whether you feel at ease with them than any biography can.

Start with practical fit. Do you want in-person sessions in Oakville (Olga), in-person in Burlington 15 minutes away (Alisa), or online across Ontario (any of our six)? Is the session fee within your comfortable range? Sliding scale is available with several of our therapists — mention this on your discovery call. Does the therapist work with what you are bringing — anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, identity, life transitions?

Then consider approach. Gestalt is relational, experiential, and present-focused. CBT is structured and skill-based. DBT teaches emotion regulation and distress tolerance. Most of our therapists work integratively, drawing on multiple methods to suit each client. If you are not sure what you need, name that — a good therapist will help you figure it out.

01
Gestalt
A relational, experiential, present-focused approach that works with what is alive in the room — sensations, emotions, contact patterns — rather than only with cognitive content. The signature modality at GestaltReview.
02
CBT
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Structured, skill-based, evidence-led work on the relationships between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Particularly strong for anxiety, depression, and protocol-based presentations.
03
DBT
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Teaches emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal skills. Especially useful for intense emotion, self-criticism, and difficulty with relationships.
04
Integrative
Most of our therapists work integratively — combining Gestalt, CBT, DBT, ACT, attachment-based, and trauma-informed methods to meet each client where they are rather than applying a single template.

Common questions

How do I know I need therapy?

You may benefit from therapy if you find yourself stuck in patterns you cannot shift on your own — recurring anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulty, self-criticism, burnout, or distress connected to past experience. You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to seek therapy. Many Oakville clients come to us not because something is acutely wrong but because they want to understand themselves better, work through a transition, or build a more honest relationship with their own emotional life. A free 15-minute discovery call is the easiest way to find out whether therapy is the right step.

What presentations do Oakville therapists treat?

Our six therapists collectively work with the full range of common presentations — anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, complex trauma, relationship and couples difficulty, life transitions, work and burnout, identity and self-esteem, grief, perfectionism, OCD, addictive patterns, emotion regulation, attachment patterns, intergenerational and cultural experience, and developmental concerns. Each therapist has particular areas of focus, but all are trained generalists able to work across most adult presentations. The therapist cards above list each practitioner's primary focus areas.

How do I choose a therapist?

The most reliable way to choose is to book a free 15-minute discovery call with two or three of our therapists and see how each conversation feels. Research consistently shows that the quality of fit between client and therapist matters more for outcomes than the specific modality used. Practical factors matter too: format (in-person Oakville, in-person Burlington, online), fee, availability, and any languages other than English you would prefer. Skim the cards above for these details, then book a free call — most people know within 15 minutes whether someone feels like the right fit.

How much does therapy in Oakville cost?

Sessions across our Oakville-serving practitioners range from $140 to $190 per 50-minute session. Sliding scale pricing is available with several therapists if cost is a barrier — mention this during your free discovery call. Psychotherapy is exempt from HST in Ontario. Most extended health benefit plans cover registered psychotherapy and social work; check your annual coverage limit with your insurer before your first session. Receipts are provided for all sessions.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Research consistently shows online therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for most presentations — anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulty, life transitions. The therapeutic relationship can be established and maintained well over video, and many clients prefer the convenience of not commuting. All our practitioners use PHIPA-compliant, encrypted platforms. That said, some people prefer in-person sessions, particularly for deeper or longer-term work. In-person therapy in Oakville is available with Olga Klimenkova; Alisa sees clients in-person at her Burlington clinic, 15 minutes from most of Oakville.

What if my first session doesn’t feel right?

This is more common than people realise, and it is not a failure of therapy — it is information. Sometimes the first session feels unfamiliar because the work is unfamiliar; sometimes it does not feel right because the fit is not right. Give yourself one or two sessions to settle in, then check in with yourself honestly. If the fit is wrong, you are welcome to switch to another of our therapists — no awkwardness required. A good therapist will not take it personally; they want you to find the right person too.
